SWISS ART AWARDS 2014

"What might at first strike a viewer in Thomas Moor's work is the apparent casualness and charm enveloping his work. Effortless-looking wall paintings, photographsy and an old fashioned device instill a calm sense of déjà-vu in the viewers, who do not find themselves immediately confronted with the wildly unfamiliar. Formal accessibility is one of the important aspects in viewing and above all experiencing Thomas Moor's work, and is part of what the artist himself describes as three points of relevance in the decision-making that underpins his working process - namely the aspects of formal accessibility, charm and offence. This setting could be seen as a kind of performance event as the sense of critique or offence usually follows the previously disarming charm, therefore involving the viewer in a time-based experience. The artist reveals himself as part of the process and often enacts himself in the work in a joyful yet fragile manner. Although the language used may be light and reassuring, what is felt in conclusion is often a more complex, offensive and uncomfortable.” Jacky Poloni, in Saalblatt zur Präsentation an der Liste19
