Ursula Reuter Christiansen — Art Basel’s Unlimited sector
Leporello is a condensed story of strong characters, joined together in an intimate moment, standing tall as a force to be reckoned with. Each figure carries out a conflict and inherits an ambivalence, as their titles suggest: Criminal/Avenger; Witch/Wizard; Murderer/Victim; Trickster/Heroine; Terrorist/Freedom Fighter; Sensitive Painter/Philosopher; Prude/Abusee; Revolutionary/Partisan; Vagabond/Homeless. The work bears the combined wisdom of many generations, with each panel telling the story of courage, survival, and power. The strength of these characters is underlined by the brushstrokes and colors that Reuter Christiansen energetically applies to the nine acrylic panels. Both theme and execution are sensual displays of the artist’s inner being.
Unlimited is Art Basel’s sector for monumental projects that transcend the classical art fair booth, curated by Giovanni Carmine.
