Tobias Nussbaumer. Echo Drift

In his work, Tobias Nussbaumer intertwines and connects fragments of memories with ideas or concepts. Building virtual architectures from patchy memories, he draws using algorithms and confronts theoretical concepts with digital creation and artificial machine learning software. At the crossroads between memory, identity, and technology, he observes how layers of memory overlap and dissolve, in our minds and in digital systems alike.

Shown in immersive installations, black-and-white drawings by the artist from Basel come together with the environment of the Gruyères Castle to create a scene which positions the viewer as the new protagonist. In the Echo Drift exhibition, Nussbaumer continues to explore memory and the identity it entails to highlight the inexorable fragility of our thought systems.
