Ayse Erkmen lässt sich ganz auf die spezifische Situation vor Ort ein, weckt Fragen und stellt mit kargen Eingriffen unausgesprochene kulturelle und funktionale Zusammenhänge her. Oft wirkt sie an Orten des Übergangs, dort, wo sich neue Verbindungen ergeben. In St. Gallen hat sie das naturhistorische Depot geplündert und die Räume des Kunstmuseums in ein Uhrgehäuse umfunktioniert: «Kuckuck» nennt sie vielsagend und augenzwinkernd die St. Galler Ausstellung.
