After a two-year interval, the next edition of British Art Fair takes place this autumn with over fifty leading dealers presenting the very best Modern and Contemporary British Art throughout the spacious and elegant interiors of London’s iconic Saatchi Gallery. Founded in 1988, British Art Fair is the only fair dedicated to Modern and Contemporary British Art. Its showcase of paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures covers all the important artistic movements of the past 100 years. Most of the great names of 20th century British art are represented: Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, Lucian Freud, Elisabeth Frink, Terry Frost, Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney, L.S. Lowry, Henry Moore, Paul Nash, John Piper, Bridget Riley, Walter Sickert and Graham Sutherland alongside contemporary names such as Grayson Perry, Banksy and many others of the 21st century. Much of the work is privately sourced and fresh to the market, and dealers – many of whom have been with the fair since its inception – keep work back for it each year. The result is a niche event of the highest quality.

Under new ownership and with additional exhibitions and events, this year’s edition promises some exciting developments. 2022 sees the launch of Solo Contemporary, a second-floor installation of ten contemporary galleries, each showcasing the work of one British artist. Curated by artist, dealer and lecturer Zavier Ellis, each exhibitor in Solo Contemporary brings to the fair one of Britain’s rising stars. This follows in the vein of the fair’s founding principle to support the careers of British artists.

There are also three special exhibitions: Paintings by the Scottish artist and writer William Johnstone OBE (1897– 1981) Principal of Central School of Arts and Crafts 1947-1960; A selection of work by Royal Scottish Academy graduates; The Ingram Collection of Modern British Art curated by its director, Jo Baring.

This year has also seen the launch of BLAST Magazine . Written by Art Sales Correspondent, Colin Gleadell, this bimonthly publication, published by British Art Fair, takes readers through the highs and lows of the British Art Market.
